Fencing Improvements Scheduled for Hilo Transfer Station

Post Date:04/21/2025 4:12 PM

The County of Hawaiʻi Department of Environmental Management will begin fencing improvements at the Hilo Transfer Station on April 28.

The project includes the installation of approximately 600 linear feet of new chain link fencing and multiple double-swinging gates with locking latches. Most of the work will take place in the area of the cardboard recycling bins.

These improvements will enhance site security and support better traffic flow. The total project cost is $126,000 and construction is expected to take approximately 60 days to complete.

The Hilo Transfer Station will remain open during construction. The community is asked to follow all posted signage and exercise caution near active work areas.

We appreciate the community's patience and cooperation as we continue to maintain and improve our transfer stations.
