The County of Hawaiʻi Department of Environmental Management announces upcoming annual closures of all solid waste facilities on the following holidays:

Thursday, Dec. 25, Christmas Day

Thursday, Jan. 1, New Year’s Day
Please kōkua, plan ahead, and refrain from littering outside transfer station gates.
Tree-cycling
Additionally, residential customers are encouraged to tree-cycle their holiday trees and kadomatsu decorations at the following Recycling & Transfer Stations:

Kealakehe (Kailua-Kona), Ke‘ei, Kea‘au, Pāhoa, Volcano, and Waimea from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. on regular greenwaste collection days.

East Hawai‘i Organics Facility in Hilo from 7 a.m.-4:15 p.m. (closed from 12 p.m.-12:30 p.m.) daily.

West Hawai‘i Organics Facility in Pu‘uanahulu from 7 a.m.-4:15 p.m. (closed from 12 p.m.-12:30 p.m.) Mondays through Saturdays.
This service will be available to the public from Dec. 28-Jan. 15, except for the annual closure of Solid Waste facilities on Jan. 1.
All decorations, stands, lights, tinsel and ornaments must be removed from trees prior to recycling. Please do not drop off artificial or flocked trees. Flocked trees, artificial trees or trees with decorations are not recyclable and may be disposed of in the regular trash chutes.
