PLANNED IMPROVEMENTS
The project includes installing a new canopy, repaving, and adding a new rubbish chute, retaining wall, concrete swale, and concrete pad. These improvements will enhance safety, accessibility, and overall functionality, providing a cleaner and more efficient space for the community.
ALTERNATIVE TRANSFER STATION
During construction, the Honomū Transfer Station at 28-1844 Old Māmalahoa Highway will be open on the following additional days to accommodate residents:

Who was the project awarded to?
The project was awarded to the local construction firm Isemoto Contracting for $2.57 million.
How was the Honomū Transfer Station selected as the alternative station?
Council Member Kimball's office conducted a poll, and the community's preference was to add three additional days of service at the Honomu Transfer Station.
Could we place a bin outside the Laupāhoehoe Transfer Station while the work is being done?
Unfortunately, placing a bin outside the station is not possible due to the following reasons:
- The County does not own the area outside the gate.
- Construction activity and public traffic in the same space would create safety concerns.
- Unattended bins pose security and environmental risks.
How long the transfer station will be closed once the project starts?
The exact reopening date is not yet finalized. The entire project is scheduled for 300 calendar days (approximately 10 months). We built in extra time to account for possible delays, such as weather conditions or material delivery.
